Learn the current system
Parents may have a practical reason for where supplies live or how a handover works. Ask before rearranging it. Learn how the family labels each child’s belongings, where ordinary household supplies are and which jobs they would actually welcome. Experience is useful when it works with the current plan.
Give both children a conversation
Use names and notice each child’s interests. Avoid asking who is faster, taller or easier. If one child speaks for both, gently invite the other to contribute without making it a test. A shared story can include two voices, and a quieter child may prefer time to think.
Bring practical help with permission
Offer a meal, a school collection or a household job that you can reliably complete. Check dates, food needs and any transport or care arrangements directly with the parents. Keep promises small enough to keep. Ask before bringing bulky equipment or surprise presents.
Leave medical instructions with the care team
Current feeding, medicines and safety guidance may differ from what you remember. Follow the parents’ agreed professional instructions and ask when uncertain. A general family website does not establish what either child needs. Our help board deliberately focuses on ordinary household jobs.
Make a memory together
Write down a small shared moment or a phrase each child used, with permission. Keep private copies private and ask before posting photographs. The memory studio exports a simple text keepsake, so you can add the words to a family journal without creating a public profile.
